To me, one of the most memorable law of attraction advocates is The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. I read this book once or twice. Once, when I was really young and hopeful that I can achieve whatever I want, and the second time, when I was older and..well, still hopeful.
What Is The Law Of Attraction?
Law of attraction is a law that surrounds all of us, and enables us to attract anything that we focus on into our life. This concept is based on the Universe law, that none of us are immune.
Law of attraction has the power to translate and materialize whatever we want into reality. Based on this, if you have negative thoughts, you will continue attracting negativity into your life. If you will focus on thinking positively and the goals you want to achieve, you will find a way to achieve them.
The most astonishing thing about the law of attraction is that, according to its proponents, law of attraction works whether you are aware of it or not. Knowingly or unknowingly, we constantly attract what we are putting out in the Universe with our thoughts and actions. It does not matter if we believe in it, or not.
Attract The Good, The Bad And The Ugly
“What you think, you become” – Buddha.
One of the more controversial ideas is that we are responsible for EVERYTHING that has happened in our life. I personally, am not entirely sure how I feel about this statement, as some people really go through very harsh experiences in their lives. So to blame them, for what has happened seems a bit… intense.
At the same time, it sounds empowering. It seems that this whole concept is based on having control over your own life and future, rather than believing that the stars have to align for good things to happen. By putting out positive thoughts and actions, you can align the stars for yourself.
Another quite impressive thing to me is finding out that the law of attraction is actually backed up by science. Quantum physics, to be exact.
Practice Makes Perfect
“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you are right” – Henry Ford.
All of these believes and rules come down to one thing – not only you are capable of attracting the kind of life that you want, your potential and possibilities are limitless. Believing in this with every cell of your body is the core of the law of attraction, and what will lead you to success.
So, the question is – how does one actually use the law of attraction?
Manifestation With Affirmations (e.g. for attracting love)
To manifest what you want, you need to ‘eat, sleep, dream successful thoughts’(2). Affirmations can help with that.
Law of attraction proponents believe that written and spoken word is a very powerful tool in achieving success. This doesn’t go far off in other religious practices, where affirmations are used in a form of prayers.
The key to affirmations is that they must be believable and evoke strong emotions in order to truly be effective. Here are some guidelines how to make your affirmations more powerful:
- Focus on positive, not the negative – rather than wishing for something NOT to happen, wish for something you truly want to attract. So, instead of saying ‘I want a job where I DON’T have to work overtime’, say ‘I attract a job where I have enough time for my hobbies’, or something of similar sorts.
- Make your affirmations believable – in order to be effective, your affirmations should be at least considered possible, so that you wouldn’t start subconsciously thinking ‘oh, this is impossible! it will never happen’. Once you achieve your initial, smaller goal, you can build on top of that, and aim to manifest even greater things.
- Imagine that you already have it – taking time, and imagining that you already have/are what you wish for, helps to make your affirmations more believable, and puts you in the positive emotional state for receiving everything you are asking for.
Visualization (e.g. for financial stability)
“Everyone visualizes whether he knows it or not. Visualizing is the great secret of success.” – Rhonda Byrne
Visualization is believed to be one of the best and most popular techniques to practice the law of attraction. It is also said to be the best technique to start with for beginners.
One of the most popular tools for visualization is creating vision boards. The aim of using vision boards is to improve you focus, motivation and positive thinking towards your goals. They are very easy to make, and can actually be a fun activity not only for adults, but for the kids too.
When starting to make a vision board, it is important to think about how you want to represent the future you are aiming to create for yourself. You can use images, words and other visual representations to create an emotion that will associate with what you want.
Since the aim of vision boards to make your dreams into tangible reality, aligning your vibrations and helping you to finally reach your goal, it is advised to place your board where you would constantly notice it. Some people like to place it in front of their bed, so it would be the first thing they see. Others hang it in their home office.
I, without realizing that I was actually practicing visualization, always liked to represent my dreams and goals, by glueing visual representations of them in my notebook. I carry it around with me most of the time, I write in it daily, as it is my project planning and personal diary, so I always have that constant reminder of what I want with me.
Positive thinking (e.g. for improving mental health and self-confidence) – let go of all feelings of doubt
You attract not what you want, but what you are. This is why it is important to immerse yourself in the feelings of gratitude, positivity and love. Only by feeling that, you will ultimately become happier, more positive and achieve all that you want.
If it sounds confusing, just hear it out.
Law of attraction proponents claim that, in order to achieve what you want, you have to feel it with all essence of your body. You have to become it. So, if you want wealth, you have to feel wealthy, if you want health, you have to act and feel as if you are healthy now.
Only by feeling success, you will become successful.
A good way to start feeling more positive about yourself and your life is being generally more thankful and grateful for what you have already. By saying thank you and focusing on the positives, you will attract more of the same.
Too Good To Be True?
One question remains – is the law of attraction really an easy way to success?
Well, there are people who claim that there is no actual scientific basis for the law of attraction, and that in best case scenario, it could be qualified as pseudoscience(5). Others claim that it disables people from taking action and actually working hard towards their goals.
My take on it is this: without realizing I feel like I already have used some of law of attraction techniques in my daily life, to reming myself of what I want and what I am working towards.
Would I say that it is the main think that helps me to achieve my goals? No. But it really helps me to stay motivated and reminds me why I set out certain tasks for myself.
I think we should not forget the value of hard work and taking action to achieve our goals. But at the same time, being grateful and positive towards yourself, your goals and your future, will only help, not harm you.
What do you think? Have you tried practicing law of attraction before? Would you give it a try? Let me know!
